If my pet already has an I.D. tag, why does he/she need The Pet Protector Tag?

A tag with your home phone number and address is only truly reliable when you're home to answer the call. The person who finds your pet may not be willing or able to wait until you call them back. If you're not home and the caller gets a recording or no answer, they may just leave your pet where they found him/her. That's a dangerous place for your pet.

With The Pet Protector Tag, your pet is always one free phone call away from immediate help in any emergency. When the finder calls the toll-free number on The Pet Protector Tag they will always reach a live person. And they will be assured that help is on the way. Our hotline staff of experts will instantly go into action to track you down.

Isn't a microchip better than a tag?

We highly recommend the microchip, but only as a back-up form of I.D. in case your pet's collar comes off. It is not a good first line of defense because the finder cannot see it. It is hidden under your pet's skin. The other problem is that it is not immediate or easy to use. It requires that the finder put your pet in their car and then drive around to look for a specialist with a microchip scanner. That's IF the finder even knows about microchips and what to do to find out if a pet has one. Plus, the microchip does not work 24 hours a day or nationwide. It only works when there is a shelter or veterinarian's office that is open and that has a scanner. Remember, you want to make it as easy as possible for the person who found your pet to quickly find you.

The Pet Protector Tag is highly visible, simple to use and it works immediately. All you need is a telephone.

My pet never gets out. Why does he/she need I.D.?

Accidents happen. No matter how careful you are. A workman accidentally leaves the gate open. The kids forget to close the door. Your pet can become tempted or startled and bolt out of the house unexpectedly. If your pet can walk, they can get out. No matter how careful you are. It makes sense to protect your pet . . . just in case.

Here's what an expert has to say on the subject:

"If we had a dollar for every pet who 'never gets out' we could build a new shelter. The Pet Protector Tag should be on your pet all the time."

Madeline Bernstein, President
spca/LA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)

Remember: In the event of a natural disaster, windows may break or a door may fly open. You may not be able to control whether your pet gets out or not.

Isn't a city license tag good enough?

The main purpose for a city license tag is to show proof that your pet has had his/her shots and is licensed. It is not a reliable form of I.D. It doesn't work when the shelter is closed. It doesn't work if your contact information is out of date. And it doesn't work if your pet is taken to a shelter other than the one that issued the license. If your pet ends up in a shelter that cannot find you, your pet can be put up for adoption or put to sleep. If the finder chooses to hold onto your pet instead, your only hope is that they will be patient and smart enough to track you down.

The Pet Protector System is a quick, one-step process for the finder. All they need to do is make one free phone call.

If my pet is found injured and I can't be located, won't a vet go ahead and treat my pet?

You can't count on it. Unlike human doctors, veterinarians are not obligated by law to treat an injured pet without proof of payment. Most won't. If you can't be located, our hotline staff can authorize emergency medical treatment in your absence.

Why does my indoor cat need I.D.?

It just takes one little mistake. Doors can easily be left ajar giving your cat the perfect opportunity to slip outside. Screens can fall out of windows or a natural disaster can break windows allowing your cat to get outside. If this happens, your pet needs I.D.

Are there other services like The Pet Protector System?

You can find other services that sound "just like" The Pet Protector System and cost less. But look closely. Can they help you and your pet in all the ways that The Pet Protector System can? Is the quality the same? Are they really there 24 hours a day? You might get a "good deal" only to discover they can't help you when you and your pet need them most.
